BIBLE STUDY PSALM 23 WEEK # 4 (ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS)

1).   In the Judean desert there's a valley name the shadow of death, why did they name it this?

 

They named it "Shadow of Death" because the possibility of danger and death was always present when they entered it.

 

2).    What could be another name for the valley of the shadow of death?

 

Another name for the shadow of death is the "Valley of Worry and Fear" The uncertainty of what they might encounter could very well produce both in the hearts and minds of those who entered.

 

 

3).   Why David did not worry or fear when he was in the valley of the shadow of death?

 

David did not worry about nor fear this valley as he entered it, because he knew who his Shepherd was and he knew what God was able to do.

 

4).   What will be a comfort to us when we are in the valley of the shadow of death?

 

The answer is the promises of God and the Holy Spirit. They become His presence, "His rod and staff will be our comfort!"

 

5).    What are some scriptures that gives us comfort when we are in the valley?

 

John 14:1, 17, but there are so many others, such as (Psalm 27, 51, 91, 94, 150, Proverbs 3:5, John 14:18, good one, Romans 8:31, so many more) These scriptures has been a blessing to me when I go through hard times.

 

6).    Explain the rod in this scripture.

 

It can mean correction or it means divine protection from evil, hurt, harm, or any danger.

 

7).    Explain the Shepherd's staff.

 

It is a comfort, a symbol of the concern, the compassion that a shepherd has for his sheep.

 

8).    What is the difference between the rod and the staff?

 

The staff speak of all that is longsuffering too. The rod conveys the concept of authority, of power, of discipline, of defense against danger over the sheep.

 

 

9).    What comfort is the staff to the Shepherd?

 

The shepherd leans on the staff for support and strength, and it becomes to him a most precious comfort and help in his duties.

 

10).   Explain the rod, the staff, and the Shepherd spiritually.

 

Jesus is our Shepherd, and we are drawn to God with lovingkindness. As sheep we tend to wonder away, and Jesus uses His rod to bring us back into the fold. This is that intimate relationship with the Father, spiritually. The staff (power of God's Word) is used for guiding us to live righteous. Also use as power against the enemy "Jehovah hath broken the staff of the wicked, the rod of the rulers (Isa. 14:5)

 

11).   Spiritually speaking, if we walk away from our Shepherd, what will happen?

 

Jesus is our Shepherd, and we can get into trouble because of our stubbornness and walking away from God's presence. In His presence we are safe.
