BIBLE STUDY: INTRODUCTION

The Spiritual Warfare Weapons

Date:                  11/25/18

Introduction:

Let's Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Your warrior prepares for battle. Today we claim victory over Satan by putting on the whole armor of God!  We put on the girdle of truth! May we stand firm in the truth of Your Word so we will not be a victim of Satan's lies. We put on the breastplate of righteousness! May it guard our hearts from evil so we will remain pure and holy, protected under the blood of Jesus Christ. We put on the shoes of peace! May we stand firm in the Good News of the Gospel so Your peace will shine through us and be a light to all we encounter.  We take the shield of faith! May we be ready for Satan's fiery darts of doubt, denial, and deceit so we will not be vulnerable to spiritual defeat. We take the Sword of the Spirit! May the two-edged sword of Your Word be ready in our hands so we can expose the tempting words of Satan. By faith we warriors have put on the whole armor of God! We are prepared to live this day, this week in spiritual victory! In Jesus' name, we pray, AMEN.

I am so excited about this study! This is a study that includes Priscilla Shirer, an anointed woman of God, and Dr. David Jeremiah, a very inspiring teacher. I looked over both the books and was impressed with them, so I said in my heart, I want to study these books! I need this study now, because of what I am facing today. The prayer prayed earlier is a powerful prayer by Dr. David Jeremiah in his study of "Overcomer." Great connection, amen! We are overcomers when we put on the "Whole Armor of God!" It is called the "Warrior's Prayer!"  Our plan is to overcome evil with good in this world today.

The six parts of the Roman soldier's dress for battle illustrate six means by which the followers of Christ is able to stand against and to overcome sin, the world, and the devil (Ephesians 6:10-19). The soldier's belt stands for truth, by which we remain unencumbered by the fads and fashions of this world. The breastplate is a picture of righteousness, by which the believer's heart is protected from sin. The soldier's hobnail sandals, by which he stood firm in battle, is an image of peace-peace with God and the peace of God, which allows us to stand unmoved in battle.

The fourth item of spiritual armor is the shield of faith, by which the devil's "arrows" are deflected. Guarding the Christian's mind is the helmet of salvation, the new-birth reality that allows us to think with the mind of Christ. And finally, the only offensive piece of the armor is the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God-by which the lies of the enemy are revealed and defeated. Paul concludes this word picture of spiritual overcoming with a call to prayer-obviously not a part of a Roman soldier's armor, but definitely that which is our conduit to heaven for protection and provision as we strive to overcome.

In this study, we will integrate Dr. David Jeremiah's study "Overcomer" with Priscilla Shirer's study "The Armor of God," which is the Christian's spiritual armor with additional insights on becoming a spiritual overcomer. "To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God" (Revelation 2:7).

As I said earlier, I am so ready for another study in God's Word. There will be prayers, questions, insights, and we will dig deep from Priscilla Shirer's study as we can. May God bless us as we become a student of the Old Testament, and a believer and receiver of the New Testament.  AMEN.
