BIBLE STUDY PSALM 23 WEEK # 7 (QUESTIONS)

Answers to Questions:

1).        Name some things we can look forward to after this life.

He will wipe every tear from our eyes. There will be no more death (Hallelujah!) or mourning or crying or pain, for the old things will be gone forever, passed away. (Revelation 21:3-4).

2).        Have you asked God to forgive you?

Yes I have, and I ask Him each day to forgive me for unknown sin too.

3).        What is the comfort in Psalm 27:4?

We can dwell in God's house forever, even after death; and we may behold His beauty, see Him as He is, and to inquire in His Temple, worship Him. This is comfort to know we can be in His presence, and have that assurance of constant communion with Him.

4).        How long do we have the promise of dwelling in His house?

FOREVER!!! ETERNITY!!!

5).        What is the main figure used in this Psalm?

The Lord is my shepherd, and I shall not want (lack anything)

6).        What is the main idea?

The Shepherd's provision (1-3); The Shepherd's protection (4-5); The Shepherd's preservation (6)

7).        The Hebrew word often translated "follow" is actually closer in meaning to the word "pursue": "Goodness and kindness will pursue me." Why would God pursue us? Do you feel this happening in your life?

I truly believe it's because He loves us. Yes, I do feel in my heart that God pursue me. I feel He loves me and He has never let me down. I see that so clear, but my flesh will try to make me feel He doesn't.  You see, when we are in any trouble God's grace and mercy is always there. The recording of the Psalm of David let us know God is pursuing us right now. He didn't have to leave it for us, but He wanted us to know this, to embrace this truth through-out life. He is that kind of God!

8).        Do you see "dwelling in the house of the Lord" as a heavenly or an earthly state?

It can be both!  We sit in "heavenly places" (Ephesians 2:6) with Him right now, and we shall be with Him for all eternity, dwelling with our God.

9).        Name some of God's names.

Jehovah-Chosen

Jehovah-Jireh

Jehovah-Nissi

Jehovah-Shalom

Jehovah-Shammah

Jehovah-Tsidekenu

El Shaddai

Elohim

Adonai

10).      In each weekly recap give one of God's name.

Week # 1  Jehovah-Rohi

Week # 2  Jehovah-Jireh

Week # 3 Jehovah-Rapha

Week # 4 Jehovah-Shalom

Week # 5 Jehovah-Tsidkenu

Week # 6 Jehovah-Shammah

Week # 7 Jehovah-Nissi

11).      Read and examine week number (4-7) versions, and explain the different.

Week # 4 (NLT) New Living Translation; God's unfailing love will pursue us

Week # 5 (RSV) Revised Standard Version; Our cup will overflow

Week # 6 (WEB) World English Bible; I notice God's name Yahweh was mentioned here.

Week # 7 (ESV) English Standard Version; This one I like the most beside (KJV). It was very personal

12).      Explain God's preserving in your life.

God's preserving in my life?  First of all, God has kept me from deception of His Word, so important to me, because so much is being taught today, man's own idea of what he think is God's way of serving Him. God has spared my life over and over again against harm, hurt, and danger. I have learned to trust Him, and still learning today. I truly believe it's because of God gracious preservative to His people. Right now I believe God is preserving me for His glory in my life. I can't do it without Him! I have been sit apart for His glory. His banner is love over my life. Thank You, Lord Jesus!

BIBLE STUDY PSALM 23 WEEK # 7 (WEEKLY QUESTION)

What wonderful hope do we have for eternity?

To dwell in the house of the Lord forever, to be in His presence forever, to wipe away all our tears, to destroy sorrow and pain, and much, much more, especially to see Him face to face.

BIBLE STUDY PSALM 23 WEEK # 7 (GOD'S NAMES)

God is Jehovah-Nissi:           The Lord our Banner. (Exodus 17:8-15)

(The above names fit this Psalm perfectly. Note how each name is in this Psalm.)

"Father God, You have so many wonderful Names.  May I search out the Scripture and really get to know You by Your Names.  Each one has a special meaning and gives me deeper understanding to Who You are. Reveal Your character to me today. Amen."

Nes (nês), from which Nissi derived, means "banner" in Hebrew. In Exd 17:15, Moses, recognizing that the Lord was Israel's banner under which they defeated the Amalekites, builds an altar named Jehovah-Nissi (the Lord our Banner). Nes is sometimes translated as a pole with an insignia attached. In battle opposing nations would fly their own flag on a pole at each of their respective front lines. This was to give their soldiers a feeling of hope and a focal point. This is what God is to us: a banner of encouragement to give us hope and a focal point. Thank You Lord!

BIBLE STUDY PSALM 23 WEEK # 7 (WORD OF THE WEEK)

Preservation

1. to keep alive or in existence; make lasting: to preserve our liberties as free citizens.

2. to keep safe from harm or injury; protect or spare.

3. to keep up; maintain: to preserve historical monuments.

4. to keep possession of; retain: to preserve one's composure.

5. to prepare (food or any perishable substance) so as to resist decomposition or fermentation.

6. to prepare (fruit, vegetables, etc.) by cooking with sugar, pickling, canning, or the like.

7. to maintain and reserve (game, fish, etc.) for continued survival or for private use, as in hunting or fishing.  Verb:  (used without object), preserved, preserving.

8. to preserve fruit, vegetables, etc.; make preserves.

9. to maintain a preserve for game or fish, especially for sport.

11. that which is preserved.

12. Usually, preserves. fruit, vegetables, etc., prepared by cooking with sugar.

13. a place set apart for protection and propagation of game or fish, especially for sport.

There is a lot to read on preservation. David wrote this chapter or psalm because he desire God to preserve him in good times and bad times.  He needed God to keep him in all his ways, amen.  I need the Lord to keep me each and every day, keep my mind stayed on Him, keep my soul in good standard with Him. Preserve me Lord for the work You have called me to do, amen. In these days we all need to pray this Psalm to our Shepherd.

BIBLE STUDY PSALM 23 WEEK # 7 (DIFFERENT VERSION)

(ESV) English Standard version

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil,
for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

In reading this version, I sense closeness, as though, it was a friend, and was personal. "Your rod, Your staff, You prepare, You anoint; all those brought closeness to the Psalm for me."

BIBLE STUDY PSALM 23 WEEK # 7 (PRAYER)

Father God, this has been a very blessed study for my soul, and I pray it has blessed someone else as well. Thank You for Your Word, and the comfort it brings to our soul, spirit, and mind. I am so grateful for You, and Your Son Jesus Christ, my Shepherd. Bless us with the anointing to always remember that You are our Shepherd, and we shall not want for anything, because we have You. Our quiet resting place is in You, even when we walk through the valley of the shadow of death. Our joy is that we will be with You forever, as You are with us now. Thank You because Your goodness and mercy has been with us, and shall continue to follow us forever more. Bless us as we dwell in Your house (presence), and Your heart. We come away from this study with these words in our hearts. "The Lord is MY shepherd; I shall not want. He makes (me) lie down in green pastures. He leads (me) beside still waters. He restores (my) soul. He leads (me) in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though (I) walk through the valley of the shadow of death, (I) will fear no evil, for you are with (me); your rod and your staff, they comfort (me). You prepare a table before (me) in the presence of (my) enemies; you anoint (my) head with oil; (my) cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow (me) all the days of (my) life, and (I) shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever." Amen.

NEW BIBLE STUDY (INTRODUCTION)

Bible Study "Passion Week" Seven Last Sayings of Jesus from the cross

Date: (3/29/15)

Question: "What Is Passion Week / Holy Week?"

Answer:
Passion Week (also known as Holy Week) is the time from Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday (Resurrection Sunday). Also included within Passion Week are Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. Passion Week is so named because of the passion with which Jesus willingly went to the cross in order to pay for the sins of His people. Passion Week is described in Matthew chapters 21-27; Mark chapters 11-15; Luke chapters 19-23; and John chapters 12-19. Passion Week begins with the triumphal entry on Palm Sunday on the back of a colt as prophesied in Zechariah 9:9

Passion Week contained several memorable events. Jesus cleansed the Temple for the second time (Luke 19:45-46), then disputed with the Pharisees regarding His authority. Then He gave His Olivet Discourse on the end times and taught many things, including the signs of His second coming. Jesus ate His Last Supper with His disciples in the upper room (Luke 22:7-38), then went to the garden of Gethsemane to pray as He waited for His hour to come. It was here that Jesus, having been betrayed by Judas, was arrested and taken to several shameful trials before the chief priests, Pontius Pilate, and Herod (Luke 22:54-23:25).

Following the trials, Jesus was scourged at the hands of the Roman soldiers, then was forced to carry His own instrument of execution (the Cross) through the streets of Jerusalem along what is known as the Via Dolorosa (way of sorrows). Jesus was then crucified at Golgotha, was buried and remained in the tomb until His glorious resurrection.

It is referred to as Passion Week because in that time, Jesus Christ truly revealed His passion for us in the suffering He willingly went through on our behalf. What should our attitude be during Passion Week? We should be passionate in our worship of Jesus and in our proclamation of His Gospel! As He suffered for us, so should we be willing to suffer for the cause of following Him and proclaiming the message of His death and resurrection.

Jesus Christ made seven final statements during his last hours on the cross. These phrases are held dear by followers of Christ because they offer a glimpse into the depth of his suffering to accomplish redemption. Recorded in the Gospels between the time of his crucifixion and his death, they reveal his divinity as well as his humanity.

During the Easter season, especially on Good Friday, Christians focus on the passion of Jesus Christ, or his suffering and death on the cross. Jesus' final hours on the cross lasted about six hours. We will break down these events recorded in Scripture, including the events just before and immediately following the Crucifixion.  Many of the actual times of these events are not recorded in Scripture. The timeline represents an approximate sequence of events. We will start the Seven Last Sayings of Christ in this study. But first, let's look at the timeline of Jesus' final hours……………

Jesus Rises from the Dead (Matthew 28:1-7; Mark 16:1; Luke 24:1-12; John 20:1-9)

By all accounts Jesus didn't do a lot of talking on the cross. He was silent during the hours he hung there, except for a very few words. But these Seven Last Words provide a window into Jesus' soul, a way to understand what is ultimately important to this One who is dying on the cross.

These Words reveal his incredible love, his determination, his humanness as well as his divinity, his intimate relationship with his Father, and finally his trust.

One way to meditate on these Seven Last Words personally might be one each day in a single week, especially during Holy (Passion) Week.

The seven last sayings is part of a Christian meditation that is often used during Lent, Holy Week, and Good Friday. The traditional order of the sayings is ……..

Week # 1               Luke 23:34: "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do"

Week # 2               Luke 23:43: "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise."

Week # 3               John 19:26–27: "Woman, behold your son. Son Behold your mother."

Week # 4               Matthew 27:46: "My God, My God, have you forsaken me?"

Week # 5               John 19:28:  "I thirst."

Week # 6               John 19:29-30: "It is finished."

Week # 7               Luke 23:46:  "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit."

Week # 8               Conclusion

In this study the guideline is different. In each weeks' study we will have a title, theme, warm-up question, goal, (3) questions on the weekly verse, (3) questions on the title, (3) questions on life application, and (1) question on Jesus personality (passion); we will have a beginning prayer, and an ending prayer, and I am reading three chapters of the book of John weekly. When studying the last sayings of Jesus on the cross there is so much to learn from, but we will only touch bases with some of the gold nuggets in the saying for now. Our theme is Passion Week because we desire to tap into Jesus' passion for the Church.

Reading the book of John:

Week # 1                               (John 1-3)

Week # 2                               (John 4-6)
