1).        What is a Parallelism?

the use of successive verbal constructions in poetry or prose that correspond in grammatical structure, sound, meter, meaning, etc.

plural noun: parallelisms the use of parallel processing in computer systems.

2).        What is a Synonymous Parallelism?

A term describing a couplet in which the second line repeats the idea or content of the first line, but in different terms, as by using different images, symbols, etc.

3).        What is an Antithetical Parallelism?

In an antithetical parallelism two ideas are contrasted with one another. It is a form of parallelism where the meaning of two or more excerpts of text are obverse, although directly linked by providing the same meaning from differing perspectives. This type of parallelism is used in order to create repetition of meaning as a technique for cognitive reinforcement, thus more effectively communicating the meaning of the text.

4).        What is a Synthetic Parallelism?

Synthetic parallelism involves the completion or expansion of the idea of the first part in the second part. Synthetic parallelism occurs when the second colon completes or compliments the meaning of the first. It is difficult to put a precise definition on this type of parallelism, and it is consequently used as a "catch-all" category. In other words, if the parallelism doesn't appear to be synonymous or antithetical, then it is classified synthetic.

5).        What is an Emblematic Parallelism?

Emblematic parallelism is constructed with a symbol or a metaphor (an emblem) that is placed side by side (in parallel) with its meaning. A verse that exhibits emblematic parallelism will feature an illustration and its interpretation—an extended simile or an ancient object lesson, as it were.
