Identifying a Parallelism:

 

Proverbs 15:16………………..Synonymous Parallelism

"Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith."

(Comparative couplets) (Alike)

 

Proverbs 10:1…………………….Antithetical Parallelism

"The proverbs of Solomon,  a wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother."

(Contractive couplets) (Opposite)

 

Proverbs 16:16…………………Synthetic Parallelism

"How much better is it to get wisdom than gold!  and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!"

(Completive couplets) (Complete)

 

Proverbs 25:11…………………..Emblematic Parallelism

"A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver."

(A Type)

 

Proverbs 27:15……………………Emblematic Parallelism

"A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike."

(Sometimes a synonymous parallelism is emblematic as well.)
