BIBLE STUDY: "Praying Like Jesus" Sharing

Week # 4    PRIVATE DEVOTIONS TIME: Solitary Communion (Luke 5:15-16)

"15 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities. 16 And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed."

Week # 4         NOTABLE PRAYERS:        Jabez (1 Chronicles 4:9-10)

"And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested."

Week # 4      QUESTIONS:

1).        Name some places Jesus prayed in solitary.

Jesus prayed on the Sea of Galilee, Garden of Gethsemane, Bethany Road, Jordan River, Mountain top, and other places too.

2).        What kind of prayer was Jabez's prayer?

Jabez cries out to God for protection and blessing. Using a play on words, Jabez, the "man of sorrow," asks God to keep him from that sorrow which his name both recalled and foreboded. Jabez's goal in his prayer was to live free from sorrow, and the last thing we read about him is that God heard and answered his prayer. Like Solomon's humble prayer for wisdom (1 Kings 3:5-14), Jabez's devout prayer for blessing was answered. The success Jabez enjoyed outweighed the sorrow of his beginning. The prayer of Jabez overcame the name of Jabez. It was a petition prayer. Amen.

3).        What is the difference between a prayer focus and a prayer request?

Prayer request is an act of asking politely or formally for something. Prayer focus is the center of interest or activity in our prayer time, and the state or quality of having or producing a clear visual view of something we are asking for, and paying particular attention to. We need this in our pray time.

Week # 4         PRAYER FOCUS:

To be more sensitive to pray for others, and to join in with others believers in prayer more often than I do now. Seek God's face concerning community prayer.

Week # 4         PRAYER REQUEST:

Pray for believers to use the kingdom model, "On earth as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10)

Week # 4         APPLY IT: A Daily Quiet Time with God

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done Lord God Almighty; as it is in heaven is our prayer today. Father God, let Your will be done in every one of us today. We desire to do Your will, Lord. Father God, what we need today is a higher daily dose of You love, peace, assurance, and your presence. Your Word teaches us that we acquire these blessings from our Creator through much prayer, meditation, worship, and trust in You.  O Lord, our Creator, conform us to Your image. Create in us a clean heart, a renew our heart that reflects Your love in us. When we need to change, change us, Lord, and make us new today. Amen.
